This is a kinetic sculpture I bought a number of years ago. It's powered by a pulsed electromagnet in the base that makes the huge pendulum swing. The small metallic balls swivel on their own pivots and interact with magnets. The complete thing twirls about at random, which can be a small mezmerizing.
It is supposed to run on a 9-volt battery, but I took a surplus energy supply and
